With the NBA trade deadline just four days away, teams are prepping their strategies to see how they can better their teams in the long-term or short-term. One team that has their long-term plan figured out is the Miami Heat. The Heat sit second in the Eastern Conference standings, have a plethora of stars on their roster, and are one of the deadliest teams in the NBA. Can they possibly get any better?
I mean, they have floor managers like Kyle Lowry and Jimmy Butler leading the way, Bam Adebayo playing the role of the scrappy big man who could finish, and shooters like Tyler Herro and Duncan Robinson who can turn a team’s lights out when they get on a hot streak. It is hard not to be impressed by this team, really. So who could they potentially add in order to become even more lethal?
Bradley Beal
I know what you’re probably thinking, “whattttt?”. This team is already stacked with superstars, why do they need another one? Well, can you really have too much of a good thing? I don’t think so, so why not try and trade for another certified guard in the league who is having a tough time in Washington. Does this trade make a lot of sense for the Heat? No, not really, as they would have to probably part with some key pieces. In saying that, it would be really fun to see them swing at the fences and continue to add to this lineup.
Montrezzl Harrell
Harrell is enjoying a resurgent season this year in Washington, which means they could fetch a king’s ransom for him on the trade market. Harrell would automatically become the best paint player for the Heat if this trade does get pulled off. Harrell would fit right into the Heat’s style of bully ball, so this is definitely a player they should be looking to add to their roster.
CJ McCollum
The Portland Trail Blazers are looking worse for wear this season, and that could mean that they start to ship out some of their stars forwards, including Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum. Now I think trying to get Lillard would be a bit overkill, seeing as he might be having season-ending abdominal surgery soon, but that doesn’t mean the Heat can’t possibly pursue McCollum. McCollum would instantly improve the Heat’s 3-point shooting (only two Heat players are shooting over 40% from outside the arc) as well as their perimeter play.
Myles Turner
This is the trade Heat fans should be lobbying for the most. With Turner on this team, the Heat becomes virtually unstoppable and definitely become the favorites to win the NBA Championship this summer. Just like Harrell, Turner would fit right into the Heat’s style of “bully-ball”, except he is younger, faster, and more athletic. If I am part of the Heat brass I’m looking at every possible way to get this deal done.
Harrison Barnes
Barnes is a great shooter, as well as a proven defender in the NBA. With his acquisition, the Heat would be vastly improving their depth, acquiring a key shooter who can draw in defenders, as well as defend in his very own right. This move would set the Heat up for a lengthy playoff run. Best of all, it wouldn’t cost them too much!
