40 days and 39 nights. That is how long the football world was without Tom Brady, and that is the amount of time he needed to conclude that he “belongs on the field, not in the stands”. In the tweet that was heard around the world, Brady mentioned that he still feels that he has “unfinished business” and that he will be returning to the Buccaneers next season, his 23rd in the NFL.
This is not only great news for the game of football but amazing news for the Buccaneers. With Brady retiring, question marks surrounded the team and, more specifically, who would be their next quarterback. Now with Brady coming out of retirement Bucs fans all over can sleep easy knowing Brady will be under the helm in Tampa.
Another great thing about Brady being back is that now the Bucs are potential players for every bug name signing in free agency. Who wouldn’t want to come to Tampa and win a ring with the very best to do it? I know I would! This move will pay off in spades for the Buccaneers as a whole, and judging by Brady’s “unfinished business” quote, it seems he is more motivated than ever to capture an eighth Superbowl ring.
Brady’s longtime best friend and teammate Rob Gronkowski is currently a free agent, and now with Tom Brady back in the mix, I think it’s clear his loyalty lies with the only quarterback to ever throw him a touchdown pass. Earlier in the week, Gronk had alluded to how he would like to possibly play with Joe Burrow at some point, but I think he will put that off for when Brady does OFFICIALLY retire from the league. For now, it looks like he’s stuck with the G.O.A.T.
For reference, the MLB lockout lasted longer than Brady’s retirement. I’m not sure why NFL quarterbacks retire then un-retire multiple times, it seems to be a common theme. Just look at Brett Favre, he came out of retirement twice! Not once, but a second time! I’m not complaining, because we got to see some great football out of him in his later years, it was just a bit strange.
Whatever the case is, I’m just ecstatic that our Buccaneers are getting the G.O.A.T back and that he will be leading us down the field next year, and guides us to another SuperBowl championship. Hopefully, we are able to persuade some high-profile free agents to make their way to Tampa as well. I guess we will find out in due time!
