Wow. The only word I can use to summarize the NFL off-season thus far. As I’m writing this (Wednesday afternoon EST), news broke that Tyreek Hill, the cheetah of Kansa City, has been traded to the Miami Dolphins, who then made him the highest-paid WR in the NFL. This move comes on the heels of an already hectic NFL offseason.
It seems that every single team has made “all-in” moves (even the New York Jets). More and more it’s looking like mediocre teams of the past aren’t content with bottom-dwelling anymore, and that every single team will be competing hard for next year’s Lombardi Trophy. To be quite honest, I have no idea who the Super Bowl favorite is because everybody has gotten so darn improved.
My first instinct is to say that the Buccaneers are the no-doubt favorites, but how can I say that when I know the Broncos have taken major steps in becoming a relevant and winning team once again. Or how can I say that the Packers are a lock when the Chargers have been proving everybody wrong and constructing a scarily good team. No matter where you turn, every team has a chance, and that’s what makes next season so exciting.
For years now it seems that there were always ten teams that we were competing, while the rest were either middle of the pack and had no chance in hell they make the playoffs. Now, it seems like almost everybody is going to be finishing with a 9-7 record because these divisions have become so damn evenly strengthened.
Just look at the AFC North, which houses the Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Super Bowl runner-ups Cincinnati Bengals. The sheer amount of power in that one division can defeat Thanos, and that’s not counting all the other NFL divisions. Just yesterday I was looking at the “money-moves” the Dolphins we’re making, and they have significantly gotten better, adding Tyreek Hill, Raheem Mostert, Terron Armstead, and a couple of other pieces that will help them compete in the stacked AFC East.
This NFL season will be the greatest of all time because every single team has brought their lunch pales, and is ready to work and compete. In years past, teams have accepted the fact that they would not be competing for the Super Bowl and write their obituary before the season even began. Well, that isn’t happening this year, and it seems all 32 teams want a piece of that glorious Vince Lombardi Trophy.
