Analyzing The Buccaneers’ Free Agent Signings

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and no, I’m not talking about Christmas. NFL free agency has officially kicked and WOW! This year deals are getting done faster than…faster than…hell, I don’t even know, but what I do know is that the deals are coming fast and furiously.

Certain teams have made some huge splashes, such as the Chargers, who have completely revamped their defense, or the Jaguars, who seem to be stockpiling offensive weapons for Trevor Lawrence to work with. Another team that made some huge splashes on Monday and Tuesday we’re the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who scored the biggest free-agent signing of all when Tom Brady decided to come out of retirement and suit up once again. Now I know Brady doesn’t technically count as a free-agent signing, but boy did he pave the way for other signings to happen for the Bucs.

The Bucs have been super active these past few days, so to pay homage to their masterful signings I’ll be looking at and analyzing all the signings as of now (Tuesday night) and then give a slight suggestion as to some other players we might be inclined to sign. So, without further ado, let’s jump right into it.

Carlton Davis

The Bucs get back their star cornerback, and man are we happy as fans. Davis was instrumental last year for our defense, and the Bucs were able to sign Davis for a relative bargain. Because of J.C Jackson’s huge contract, he signed with L. A Chargers, the cornerback market was heating up, but not as much as the wide-receiver market. We could have almost lost out on Davis if we would have let Godwin test free agency, so we should be happy as fans. Davis brings stability that is desperately needed in the Bucs backfield (especially after the injury-riddled year last season), and hopefully, he remains healthy and has his best years yet on his new three-year contract!

Davis remains a Buc

Russell Gage

Gage is the newest addition to the Bucs receiving corps, and fans may be wondering what the exact thought was behind this signing. Gage got paid, but while in Atlanta he never really proved himself to be a #1 receiver. I’m guessing Bucs management sees the potential and any receiver paired with Brady is going to instantly get better, so Gage will probably be putting up career highs next year. His explosiveness and agility should be something Brady will be more than happy to work with, so overall, a great signing!

Russel Gage brings some dynamism to the lineup

Ryan Jensen

Jensen almost left, but now with Brady coming back, he had no other choice but to stay. Jensen called Brady the “best recruiter” and it’s hard to argue against that. The all-star center’s claims pushed the narrative that he would’ve left if Brady was officially retired. However, it’s hard not to love the guy even more after he cleared up his comments and said he would’ve returned to Tampa Bay even without Brady. He’s a Buc at heart, and I’m sure I’m not the only one that’s happy that he’s returning next year.

Jarvis Landry (Potentially)

I mean, why not? The Bucs are always looking to add weapons, and Landry would fit right into the Buc’s overall offensive scheme. Landry was the best receiver on both the Dolphins and Browns, and it’s safe to say that he would be a key contributor in Tampa Bay as well. With Landry lining up at WR3, it would be hard to vote against the Buccaneers naming another Super Bowl run.

Landry would be a superb addition to the team
