Brady basking in brilliance, Belichick in banality

The New England area kicked off a new NFL season with a staple of the last 3 years. Tom Brady shines in a win and Bill Belichick sucks in a loss. Actually the Patriots won their home opener 3 years ago with the guy Belichick pushed Tom Brady out of the door for, Cam Newton. They beat the Dolphins 21-11, but they looked like crap doing it. Cam Newton only threw for 140 yards, going 15 or 19 with the longest completion being 12 yards. The Patriot pundits hollered that this was the beginning of a new era. Bill the genius Belichick was going to bring the running game back to the NFL. He was going to ground and pound and run roughshod over the league. Who needed Tom Brady, Bill Belichick was the guy who made the Patriots a dynasty.

It didn’t help that Tampa Bay and Brady lost their home opener to their perennial nemesis, the New Orleans Saints. Though Brady went 23-36 with 239 yards and 2 touchdowns. He threw 2 interceptions and was sacked 3 times. The Belichick bobos slapped each other’s rumps and guffawed ‘Brady who?’ As long as the Patriots had Bill Belichick they were going places. Heck Newton didn’t even play the season before and Belichick was going to make him better than ever. Some of them even claimed that by the end of the season Belichick would have Cam Newton throwing like Tom Brady. Of course that meant the Patriots would be in and win the Super Bowl, once again. That year the Patriots went 7-9, and were lucky to win that many. Of course they didn’t make the playoffs. Tom Brady with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, on the other hand. Not only made the payoffs, but won the Super Bowl.. once again.

Tom Brady Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Brady fiasco still affects the New England region dramatically. Not only that it happened but how it happened. With the Patriots never offering Brady a contract. 4 years ago Tom the GOAT Brady just wanted a bottom of the basement 25 million compared to Aaron Rogers 33 million and Russell Wilson’s 35 million. Both of whom had only won 1 Super Bowl each compared to Brady’s 6. In 2018 Brady was 18th on the highest paid players in the NFL. Behind such notables as Derek Carr, Joe Flacco, Jimmy Garoppolo,  Eli Manning, Cam Newton and Phillip Rivers. Though Brady had won the Super Bowl the year before against Atlanta. Despite the fact he would be in the Super Bowl again that year versus Philadelphia. A game he might have won if Bill Belichick inexplicably doesn’t sit out his starting cornerback, Malcolm Butler, just for the heck of it. Brady would win the Super Bowl again the next year against the Los Angeles Rams. Brady had taken a discount for the team his whole career and was still willing to do so. 25 mill was illustrated of that. But bottom basement discount, clearance, BOGO. It didn’t matter. Belichick wanted him gone and Tom had no choice but to leave.

Yesterday the Dolphins weak armed quarterback Tua Tags, shredded Belichicks vaunted defense. The Dolphins no name defense put the boots to the Patriots offense. Proving once again that spending 300 mill in free agency only works if you do it in the right areas. Like 25 mil of it going to a hall of fame, greatest of all time quarterback. Before yesterday’s thrashing by Miami there were 2 contingents in New England. Those who believed the Patriots, with Bill Belichick spending 300 million in free agency, were still magical and were going places. Then there were those, still sour over the Brady fiasco, hoping the Patriots would go 0-17. The Patriots may not go 0-17 but they won’t be far from it. But that contingent won’t be the ones making the most noise in New England. That distinction will go to the contingent that thought there was still magic in Bill Belichick. They are finally realizing it wasn’t Bill Belichick that made Tom Brady. It was Tom Brady that made Bill Belichick.
