Building an 82-0 NBA Dream Team

Recently, I came across a Twitter post that caught my eye, which is rare because the internet is filled with nonsense. As a sports fan, I’ve always loved building teams, whether on the field at school during recess, or on my sports video games as a child. I figured I’d try and build an NBA Dream Team that I believe could go 82-0.

For this challenge, I’m not going to take super obvious choices for my starting 5, like just stacking the top 5 scoring leaders on the roster, but rather, try and choose a variety of all-stars that I believe would have beautiful chemistry. So, without further ado, let’s jump right in and see what our NBA 82-0 “Dream Team” looks like, all while trying to remain under the salary cap.

C: Myles Turner

Myles Turner would instantly turn this team into the championship favorite

Myles Turner has been the subject of multiple trade rumors these past couple of months, and yet nothing has come to fruition. In saying that, I would love to have Myles Turner traded to my NBA dream team, seeing as he has the right amount of everything I need in a Center. Turner is explosive, an amazing rebounder can dish it out with the best of them, and is a constant threat in and around the paint. It also doesn’t hurt that he’s one of the very best young talents in the league, and can help our team grow for years to come.

PF: Giannis Antentonkoumpo

The Greek Freak

Do I really need to explain this pick? The Greek Freak is the face of the NBA; an NBA Finals MVP, a two-time league MVP, a 3x Defensive Player of the Year Award Winner, and an absolute bucket; and he’s only 27 years old! Giannis on our roster automatically guarantees us 50 regular season wins and a playoff berth. Now the only thing we have to do is pair him up with a good set of teammates who can compliment him, that’s where Myles Turner and Khris Middleton come in.

SF: Khris Middleton

Khris Middleton

Middleton and Giannis already play with each other, and we we’re blessed to see their on-court chemistry during the 2021 NBA Finals. They dominated together, and Middleton proved that he is one of the most underrated NBA players at the moment. He also proved in those very playoffs that he is one of the most clutch NBA players in the entire league. With Middleton on the team, we get a perennial 25 PPG scorer who has proven chemistry with our Greek Freak.

SG: Lu Dort

I just had to take fellow Montreal native Lu Dort for my shooting guard pick. Dort is an amazing defender, playing lockdown D on almost every possession that comes his way, but he has also proven himself to be quite the scorer the past couple of seasons. His 3-point totals are very good, and his mid-range game is not that bad either. He is definitely an asset on both ends of the court, and one I would take on my team gladly.

PG: Chris Paul

Chris Paul is arguably the smartest player in terms of basketball IQ, so why wouldn’t I want him to be on my team running the floor? Every team needs a floor general, and I don’t trust anybody other than Paul to do it right.

Chris Paul is a monster
