The New Orleans Saints were badly struggling to find consistency in the pass game last year. The injury to Jameis Winston really threw them all out of sorts. Taysom Hill and Trevor Siemian weren’t bad, but it was clear that they weren’t the answer either. Coupled with the fact that half of their wideouts were either injured or consistently dropping passes, it was just a mess.
However, they look completely different moving into this upcoming season. Players like Chris Olave, Jarvis Landry and Michael Thomas are all coming onto the field this year. These additions can make them a potential powerhouse in the pass game. There is still one more player that is sitting there for the Saints to grab which will really bolster their unit though.
That is Odell Beckham Jr. Surprisingly, he’s one of the few big-name players left to ink a new deal with a team after winning the Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams. And tearing his ACL for the second time in the process. Reports have stated that Odell is in no rush to get a new deal done. There are a handful of teams interested in his services. Obviously, the Rams are the best option for him considering that he just won a Super Bowl with them and loves the area. Although, the Saints are a bit of a sleeper team.
Will Odell Beckham Go To New Orleans?
When it was announced by Jarvis Landry himself that he was signing with the Saints, Odell quickly left him a comment on social media asking him to take him home as well. Both Jarvis and Odell grew up in New Orleans, so he would get to be playing in his hometown. We saw this with Tyrann Mathieu. There aren’t many times when you can get a fresh start in your hometown playing alongside your best friend on the same roster. While the combination didn’t go so well in Cleveland, I think there was too many other factors dragging them down.
Now, do the Saints wait it out on him or go all in for a Super Bowl next year? In my opinion, I feel as though this organization isn’t going to go out of their way to sign him. If they feel like he is waiting for an offer and wants to join, then they’ll pick him up. It shouldn’t be expected that he heads over to NOLA. At least not at this moment unless some new information comes out. Plus, the Saints don’t really need him for the time being. It’s never a bad thing to have a lot of depth, but you also don’t want to get too many mouths to feed in this offense.
Thomas, Olave and Landry alone are going to hog the majority of the targets. Throw in Alvin Kamara, Deonte Harty (previously known as Harris) and Marquez Callaway and there isn’t much room left to go. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention that Taysom Hill is converting to tight end. So, there’s another player that needs his touches in the offense.
I’d welcome Odell aboard with open arms, but he isn’t a must have for this team to be contenders.
