Some of you are going to think of the song by John Lenon. Some of you are going to imagine hitting MegaMillions or Powerball. But for Buc fans, let’s go back 3 years to the day.
If we go back 3 seasons ago today the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were 1-2. They were on their way to a 9-7 record and were lucky to have that many wins. 3 years ago the situation looked bleak. The team was inconsistent at best. Many Buc fans couldn’t bring themselves to watch the game. They would find other, more fulfilling, things to do. Like knitting, baking, mowing the lawn, robbing lemonade stands. Anything, and yes that includes drinking copious amounts of alcohol, but watch the Buccaneers find another way to lose.
After each let down the majority of Buccaneer fandom was consumed by consternation. They murmured against heaven and earth and thought themselves accursed. (obviously, they don’t hang out with Detroit Lions fans) There was the usual gnawing of teeth and woe is me. But also there was praying. Through every dark and downtime, they are prayers for redemption. Prayers for perseverance. Prayers for victory. Using the downtimes to perfects one’s character. To change what is holding us back in life. So that when something good does happen. We are prepared for it
Well… HERE it is ladies and gentlemen. The good times. If you did indeed prayed for them. You didn’t imagine that it would happen this way, did you? That a person, a quarterback, that you loathed. Would somehow end up your team. That he would be the one to lead them to a Super Bowl victory. You could not have imagined that success would suddenly come out of nowhere. With no advanced buildup, notice, or warning to ready you for it. You could not have imagined that the team would win on their own home stadium in an outstanding fashion. So because of what you hope/pray for. For that can happen and never in the way you thought. Which makes it all the better.
The team has changed for the better. They have become stronger in character. They are more resilient in the face of tough times. They have become optimists. Always saying good out of their mouths. Seeking the good in people and in situations. Now, how about you. With success comes responsibility. Are you getting better? You are watching your ‘blueprint’ to success every Sunday. Take notes, have fun and imagine it coming to be.
