Preseason games aren’t meant to be taken seriously unless you are a player. For fans winning or losing should not matter. It is not an indication of the upcoming season. If anything, in my experience, the teams that win in the preseason. Flops in the regular season. With that being said, let’s get down to business.
The Buccaneers lost to the powerhouse Cincinnati Bengals without Joe Burrows even playing. The Bengals were a hungry and vicious lot Saturday night. With narrow eyes and frothing mouths they were clearly pumped to go at the Super Bowl champs They even had the nerve to sack Tom Brady. The final score was 19-14 Bengal’s. But Tampa Bay also won because there were NO injuries to speak of.
Kansas City, still pissed off about their Super Bowl waxing. Came out firing. Mahomes, like Brady, started the game. They beat the 49ers 19-16. Brady, Mahomes and Garropolo were the ONLY veteran QBs to start in the preseason games. For that reason they get the print and the others get no mention at all.
There were rookie QBs that started and others played a quarter or so. Trevor Lawrence. Zach Wilson, Trey Lance, Justin Fields. They looked good in spots. But if they have a decent head coach they will not start the regular season. The NFL defense is a different animal than college and what happens in preseason does not transition well into the regular season.
This week the Bucs play the Tennessee Titans. And remember. A loss with no injuries is really a WIN.
