The Aaron Rodgers era is officially over in Green Bay. The Packers will be rolling with youngster Jordan Love as their starter straight away, and reporters caught up with him to discuss the past few years. After all, he’s been stuck behind Rodgers and serving as a backup and eventual replacement for the future Hall of Fame quarterback. A quarterback that played a little longer than Green Bay probably anticipated.
The first thing Love said was that he knew what he was getting into when he was drafted. He said, “When I got drafted here, I knew right away exactly what situation I was being put in, who I was being behind.” Love continued by mentioning, “I’ll admit, I think the hardest time was when he re-signed the contract last year. It was kind of like, ok, well, where do we go from here? What do I do? I sat back, thought to myself and came back with the approach like just go ball out.”
Jordan Love Has Learnt A Lot
Obviously, anybody can realize that sitting behind a quarterback is only appealing for so long. Love wants and has wanted to craft his own legacy and journey in the NFL. Sitting behind Rodgers was a great first step, but it’s been long overdue that he would get the opportunity to start in the league. Plus, the extra year or two might have helped him out in the long run. As he dealt with the adversity and continued to battle it out for the starting job later on despite being behind a legendary signal caller.
Love also said, “I learned a lot. I was able to watch a great quarterback, how he works every day, how he handles business in the locker room, interacts with teammates, how he attacks every day.” Jordan is going to take a lot from Rodgers but also will shape into his own sooner rather than later. The team already believes that a new era is approaching the organization and that’s the greatest part of this change.
He Deserves This Opportunity
It’s not like Love is being gifted the starting job after not working hard, and that the team isn’t behind what he can do out there. Star running back Aaron Jones said, “When he talks, everybody listens, even though it’s his first year starting. A-Rod doesn’t want to be here, so he’s not going to be here.” This came a little before Rodgers got shipped off to the New York Jets, and he’s absolutely correct.
The Packers have an interesting roster all-around, and Love’s performance could seriously take this group to another level. Simply put, the NFC conference couldn’t be any more open this upcoming season. Nobody really looks like they are in a position to win it all in the NFC except for the Philadelphia Eagles. Love could take this team from a fringe playoff roster to a genuine contender if he comes out and plays like how the Packers expect him to perform.
