Wilson And Purcell Discuss Heated Exchange

Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos have not been a good combination this season. The alleged star quarterback has been playing horrendous football since arriving in Denver. We’ve quickly seen the frustration build up, not just with the fans, but with the players as well. In the most recent Broncos loss to the Carolina Panthers, a player let his voice be hard on the sidelines, and the cameras caught all of it.

Once the Panthers kicked a field goal to extend their lead to three scores early in the fourth quarter, defensive tackle Mike Purcell went straight at the star quarterback. Purcell was seen screaming at Wilson on the sidelines as the Broncos were preparing to hit the field once more. The exchange didn’t look friendly in the slightest and looked more like a beautiful example of how this year has gone for them.

Reporters after the game kept asking Purcell questions about the exchange. To which he responded, “Frustration. We want a spark on something. We’re all in this together, period. That’s the quarterback of our offense, they were about to take the field, obviously we let up a touchdown, so we weren’t doing our job, but gotta get a spark somewhere.”

Wilson Not In A Good Spot

On the other hand, Wilson looked completely calm to the exchange and just nodded his head at the frustrated defensive tackle. Wilson was also asked about the discussion after the game as well. He said, “Mike and I are on the same page. He came off after they kicked the field goal and he was pissed off and just said, we’ve got to effing go. I agree. So, he and I are on the same page. There’s no animosity there at all.”

At this stage of the game, the Broncos were on pace to put up their worst performance of the season. They were down 20-3 at this point and had a season low in both points and yards. After the exchange, Jalen Virgil fumbled the kickoff to give it back to the Panthers, so Wilson never even got back out onto the field at this point. When they eventually did get the football back, Wilson led them to a touchdown drive. Though it was clear that Carolina wasn’t trying any more.

At the end of the day, Wilson completed just 19 out of his 35 passes for 142 measly yards and one touchdown. He also lost a fumble. Latavius Murray didn’t get enough work either, as he took 13 carries for 92 yards. The passing game struggles were just so severe with inaccurate throws and whatnot that the Panthers just teed off on the quarterback.

As a team, the Broncos mustered just 246 yards of offense and made four out of their 12 total first downs. They only had two drives that lasted more than six plays and had five three-and-outs. On top of that, Denver has lost seven out of their last eight games and doesn’t even have a first-round pick in the upcoming draft. Giving that to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for Russell Wilson.
