Rainy Day Slug Fest Sees Saints Come Out On Top!

The New Orleans Saints got themselves a second consecutive win to bring their overall record to 4-2 on the season. It was an ugly grind it out type of game against the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football. Let’s dive right into what happened in the 13-10 thriller!

First things first, I believe Jameis Winston is doing one hell of a job at the quarterback position. The only problem is that he quite literally doesn’t have anybody to throw the football too in the pass game. He went for 222 yards and a touchdown without a turnover this week. Though Alvin Kamara was about half of those yards. He had 10 receptions for 128 yards and a touchdown to go along with 20 rushes for 51 yards. Kamara was putting the team on his back while Adam Trautman fumbled at a crucial time, Tre’Quan Smith didn’t look like he wanted to play football and Kevin White dropped what could have been a 50-yard bomb down the field. It was just a horrible receiving performance. Thankfully, this defense stepped up big time. There was a big lapse in judgment from both Marshon Lattimore and Marcus Williams which allowed DK Metcalf to score a massive touchdown early in the game. However, they locked it down after that. They sacked Geno Smith five times, and completely stifled their run game. Demario Davis was the man who orchestrated all of that, picking up two sacks, seven tackles and three tackles for a loss. He also would have had a pick six if he was able to keep his footing on the last offensive play of the game for Seattle. I also want to take a moment to point out how Lattimore kept his cool after the first quarter and locked Metcalf up the rest of the game, he was clearly frustrated to start the game but settled down as it went on.

Smith wasn’t terrible but threw for 167 yards, a touchdown and had a very intercepted passes but none of them counted. One wasn’t reviewed (though it would have been an interception) and a few others were picked off out of bounds. Alex Collins was their most successful rusher, taking 16 carries for 35 yards. Rashaad Penny was second with six carries for nine yards total. Tyler Lockett was once again invisible and Metcalf only caught one ball for 12 yards after his 84-yard touchdown strike to open the game. Defensively, Seattle impressed me a lot. They have a lot of solid playmakers they just need Russell Wilson back so badly.

Lastly, we always mention the Tampa Bay Buccaneers here. They stomped the Chicago Bears, no other way to put it. Justin Fields was admittedly working behind one of the worst offensive lines in football but the Bucs defense was swarming him all day. The offense was effective but truthfully, they didn’t even have to do much to win this game. They stay one step ahead of New Orleans though they get a date with one another next weekend, it’ll be the first of their two game season series.
