The NFL free agency period has officially gone on for a week now and boy, have we gotten some serious movement around the league. From players moving to division rivals, to record contracts being signed, it’s been nothing short of spectacular the amount of action we have been exposed to as NFL fans. In saying that, I figured I’d highlight some of the best signings and moves of NFL free agency. So, without further ado, let’s jump right into it.
Stafford Locked Up
Now maybe locked up isn’t the best term to describe Stafford signing a four-year / 160$ million dollar contract extension with the L. A Rams, as the California team is anything but a prison sentence for the QB, especially after he came over from a 12-year stint with the Detroit Lions (now that’s prison).
Just one year into their marriage, Stafford and the Rams were able to secure a Super Bowl ring. Now the gunslinger is locked up for another four years, and hopefully, he can deliver another four rings to the Rams faithful. He will have stiff competition, as the Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been loading up this offseason, but if there is anybody who can get the job done, it’s Stafford.
Davante Adams to the Raiders
How does a mediocre franchise with a great QB make a splash in NFL free agency? Oh, I don’t know, how about signing the golden goose of the entire thing! Yes, that’s correct, it seems there was no more money left in Green Bay after Aaron Rodgers mega-deal, so Davante Adams was the odd-man-out, was traded by the Packers to the Raiders, who then signed Adams and made him a very rich man by offering him a 5 year/ 141.25$ million dollar contract.
Adams is reunited with his former college quarterback Derek Carr. Both played for Fresno State, and it seems that the Raiders are trying to capture the magic that Joe Burrow and Jamarr Chase/ Tua and Jaylen Waddle have. The trend in the NFL seems to be to reunite the NFL quarterback with their college counterparts; let’s see if this reunion pans out with a winning season.
Von Miller to the Bills
Hey, Von Miller is back and better than ever. Oh yeah, and, he just signed a 6 year/ 120 million dollar mega-contract with the already dangerous Buffalo Bills. The Bills are lethal offensively, and now they have gotten equally as dangerous on defense.
His 115.5 career sacks leads the NFL in active players, so, hopefully, this marriage can result in a Super Bowl for the city of Buffalo, which has been dealt nothing but L’s in professional football and hockey these past 40 or so years. Yikes.
J.C Jackson to the Chargers
The Los Angeles Chargers are my dark horse team to win the Super Bowl next year. With Justin Herbert leading the way, and with the free-agency signings made by the team, this team is looking like a very dangerous team coming out of the already stacked AFC West.
J.C “Mr.Int” Jackson was the best possible CB on the free-agency market, and the Chargers were the lucky suitors who scooped up the man with 25 interceptions since 2018. This man had more INTs last season(8) than the entire Chargers roster did (7). Hot take; this team will be making the playoffs next season, and make it to the semi-finals. Don’t @ me!
Every Jets Move
After evaluating the moves that the New York Jets have made so far, I think it’s safe to say that they may not actually be a complete laughingstock this year. With sophomore quarterback Zach Wilson taking over the reins under center, the Jets invested in Guard Laken Tomlinson. Great!
They also signed CJ Uzomah and Tyler Conklin, both being dynamic TEs who can get you solid yardage after the catch. Did I forget to mention that they re-signed the lone bright star of last season, Braxton Berrios? Yes, well, they did, and it seems that Wilson will be happy knowing he will be throwing to a familiar face. Oh my, these are exciting times for New York football fans (well, maybe not the Giants).
Which team do you think had the best moves in free agency so far? Let me know in the comments below!
